Wildfire Watch UK launches as Britain faces a changing wildfire threat
Wildfires are no longer something Britain can regard primarily as a problem for hotter parts of the world. England and Wales experienced their busiest wildfire year on record in 2025, Wales saw grassland, woodland and crop fires more than triple during part of the year, and Scotland experienced the UK’s first recorded “megafire”. As climate change creates more periods of hot, dry fire weather, Wildfire Watch has launched to bring together information about wildfire activity across the UK.
